There is always a specific level of seriousness for each fandom. For Star Wars, it is the number of planets. Everybody knows about Tatooine and Hoth. The moment when casual fans split from real ones is somewhere around Dantooine, Mustafar, Kashyyyk, and Jakku. And a theme-based word puzzle draws the line.
The difference between recognition and recall
A guessing game based on a specific theme reveals a challenge which was never faced in fandoms before.
Everybody is able to recognize any planet, ship, species, and character of the series just by looking at it. Recognition is automatic and requires only watching. Recall of the name from six blank tiles is an entirely different skill.
This is something everybody faces in his or her life.
You know there is a desert planet beside Tatooine, you can see it right now, you know in what film it appears, but can not call its name. In a multiple-choice quiz, it will be revealed instantly.
This is the whole point.
Why your regular strategy of solving word puzzles is useless here
Star Wars names are invented to sound alien and break all rules your strategy is based on.
English words follow the special letter frequency. E and A dominate in it, R, S, T, L, N cover almost everything else, and such openers as CRANE are created according to this rule.
Invented names ignore it completely:
Rare letters are used very often. K, Z, V, Y, and X appear in the set much more often than in any dictionary.
Double letters appear everywhere, and Kashyyyk is the worst offender.
Vowels are used in an unusual combination with repetitions that make any English word impossible to pronounce.
Length of words varies from round to round, and your habit to open the word with a five-letter word is definitely doomed to fail on fours and sevens.
The direct result of this is that opening the word from the dictionary is virtually useless. Opening the invented name is much more productive, because even a wrong one will show what letters are included in the set.
How to play a topic round properly
Count the tiles before entering the game. The lengths of words differ in topic sets, and opening the five-letter word on the six-letter answer is the most common mistake.
Narrow your target by categories. Planets, characters, ships, species, and weapons. Narrowing down the category is much easier than browsing through the whole series.
Guess a name, not a word. Your first word should be a possible solution. Depending on the length of the word, it may be NABOO, ENDOR, VADER, and YODA.
Use hints sparingly. Two hints are provided for each answer in the set, and for a topic-based set one hint is usually enough to trigger an answer which was just outside the reach. Running out of guesses is a much worse outcome.

Wrong spelling kills. There are a lot of people who know Kashyyyk perfectly well, but do not know how many Ys it includes. And letter count will not help too.
Why it is played much better in a multiplayer format
Theme-based set transforms word puzzle game into an entirely different experience. Vocabulary becomes irrelevant, knowledge of the subject becomes the key factor, and creates the completely new dynamics comparing to dictionary-based one.
Teenage fan, who watched movies several times, will beat a well-read adult easily. And this reversal is great fun for everybody.
